For each discussion forum, you will have a choice of topics to research, review and discuss asynchronously. Do provide complete reference in the APA format for all of your sources. DQ responses should be posted online to the discussion forum before Wednesday evenings (or earlier) so others can review and comment on them in the remaining days of the week. In terms of how comprehensive these DQ responses should be, let me say that a quality answer for each question is expected to be a couple of paragraphs or about 250 words or more. DQ responses can be made up of your own opinions and hopefully supported by readings from the textbook and other sources as relevant.

In summary, over the next two days and week, please provide a quality and comprehensive answer for your chosen questions (topics) and post your answer to the discussion forum before Wednesday evening. At the meantime, please review your colleagues’ DQ responses to make sure you become familiar with the answers as they might appear in the exam, and make sure to make two quality reply comments on their topics before the session ends on Sunday evening. Overall, during this week, you must have at least 3 quality posts (one of which should be your DQ response for your selected topic and 2 replies) to earn all the participation points for each discussion forum.

Quality posts mean you are providing value-added academic content and/or examples to enrich our understanding of the courses concepts (so everyone can learn and be better prepared for the exams)….usually these value-added DQ answers are about 150 words or more per question; and quality replies can be anywhere from a complete paragraph to many. Try to use and cite the course textbook to reinforce some topics that are important for understanding the chapters. You can paraphrase the assigned readings or provide “direct quotations” to reinforce important concepts, while always providing proper citations such as (APA Writing, 2020, p. 55) and complete references in the APA format.

For this discussion forum, select, research, and answer ONE of the following questions for this week’s discussion forum.

1. How is HR structured in your organization? Who is the top HR professional and what is that person’s title? Who does that person report to? What does this tell you about the relative importance of HR in your organization?

2. Investigate the sexual harassment policy at the company where you work (if you do not work at this time, choose a company to which you have access). Tell us about the policy. What does it say, where is it posted or otherwise made public to employees? What type of sexual harassment training does your company currently have? Do you have any suggestions for improvement?

3. It has been said that a job qualification based on race, sex, religion, and so on that an employer asserts is a necessary qualification for the job is known as a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ). Explain how the concept of BDOQ can be or is being applied in your industry or in today’s workplace? Provide an example.

4. Explain the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and what it covers during hiring and promotion decisions in the workplace.

5. Discuss a time when you have either experienced or witnessed discrimination. What did you do about it? What can we do about it in the future if any of us is faced with such a discriminatory event?

6. It is understood that the concept of quid pro quo harassment refers to an individual gaining benefit in return for a sexual favor. Is this true or false. Provide an example of a specific case while providing and quoting two sources that support your answer.

7. Pick a side, pro or con, and defend your answer. “Affirmative action has outlived its usefulness and should now be abolished.”

8. Check out one of the online recruitment companies: monster.com and careerbuilder.com are just two possibilities. Give us a brief summary and critique of what you found.

9. Explain the importance of checking references for applicants and what might be the most important question when it comes to checking references? Why is it important to ask “Is there anything else that I should know about this applicant?”

10. Use the Job Characteristics Model and describe your current job to us. If you are not currently working, describe a previous job; if you have no work experience, interview a family member or friend and describe that person’s job according to the elements of the JCM.

11. What are some challenges that modern organizations face related to employee recruitment and retention? Explain some of the common reasons why a firm cannot always retain their best employees? What can managers do to recruit and retain the top talent in their fields?

12. Discuss a valuable topic, concept or theory that you reflected upon in the week’s assigned readings that is not mentioned above. Tell us the interesting topic from the assigned reading, what is it all about, what is the valuable element or learning point, and/or how we can make good use of it.

Note : You may not be able to view the other students’ postings until you post your answer to the relevant discussion question. In addition, to get full credit, you must comprehensively answer all parts of the question on your first post.
